Camp is situated in the village from Chanieng to 15 km of the city of Surin in the district of Khwao Sinarin in the northeast of the Thailand. Por Cherdchai was created six years ago by Cherdchai Sangketkit, a businessman who lives in Surin City. In the first place camp had to offer evenings of boxing matches but a small stadium opened to Na Tang, a village not far from the camp. The camp is vast because his infrastructure was built with terraces around a boxing ring to be able to welcome the public, terraces are still in position in the camp…

Today Por Cherdchai became the most important camp of the region, it supplanted the famous Sor Srisompong camp which is in 10 km. All the great champions of the Sor Srisompong left the camp, there is not more than fighter’s handful in camp which was formerly a factory to champions.

From now on it is the boxers of the Por Cherdchai that represent the region, and they are many, neighborhood 20 to 25 fighters are in this camp who are for the greater part children. When I arrived in the camp, there were very few boxers because many had fought, after their fight the boxers are often going to rest in their family…

The owner Mr Sangketkit is a generous man because he built camp for the children of the region, to incite the young people to go in for sport instead of falling in the vice of the drug. In Thailand, the drug makes devastation as well in the big cities as in the countrysides. In the kingdom of Muay Thai, many camps are a part of program “to save” the young people of the drug by means of the boxing.

In poor areas the hard drug is a real plague, then, the government sometimes helps associations created sports structures to incite the young people to follow the way of the sport rather than that fatal some drug…

The Por Cherdchai camp is a part of this kind of program which is indicated on a sign to the entrance of the camp…
